Google Calendar Mobile

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

I love Google’s apps. I’ve forced everyone at work to use Docs and Spreadsheets. No more MS Office for us! But I have been frustrated how they don’t work so well on the iPhone. But at least Google is trying. They do have some mobile versions of some apps. For instance, Google Calendar has a mobile version that works well on the iPhone. I love Google Calendar because you can collaborate on calendars. This was the only decent solution I found for creating online calendars that everyone at work can easily edit.

Google Reader

Monday, July 30th, 2007

I’ve been searching for the ideal way to read news on my iPhone. I finally settled on Google Reader mobile. While not perfect, I found it is pretty decent if you bookmark the tags view, and then first set it up on your computer with all the feeds you like organized by tags. So I’ve got tags for news, local, business, tech, entertainment, shopping and sports. Then I’ve added a few feeds to each from my local newspapers and Yahoo news.

Another iPhone Blog

Looks like a kindred spirit found me. Frank Gilroy is also blogging about iPhone stuff, on a very nice iPhone template too.

Telekinesis

Friday, July 27th, 2007

I found another Mac app that lets you connect your iPhone and computer. This one works much better, and is much more powerful. Telekinesis allows you to have access to all your files, directly. You can easily view some, like text files or PDFs. You can also control your iTunes player a bit. It lets you grab both a screen shot and a iSight picture, live. Then, to top it off, it has a simple Terminal program that can let you do, well almost anything if you know how.
The only disadvantage is that you need to know the IP address and have access through your router. Easily done if you are on a static IP and control everything. Harder if you are on a laptop and using DSL.

BrickShooter

The stand-out game BrickShooter is probably not something you’ve seen before. It looks like the game has been around for a while in many forms, and the developers were able to port their browser version to iPhone very easily. It is a simple, yet complex game where you move blocks from the sides into the middle to try to form groups. It might look like a lot of games you’ve seen before, but it plays very differently. Give it a try.
