Quick App Review: Super Monkey Ball

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

This game took the spotlight at the original App Store announcement and the WWDC keynote. The graphics really do show off the iPhone’s 3D ability, and the controls show off the use of the motion sensors as a game control.
This game is hard. At first I thought it might just be me. That I might be getting old. But then I glanced at the GTA IV and Rock Band boxes sitting on my XBox 360 and started to read other comments on the net that say the same thing. Controlling the Monkey Ball IS hard, and will definitely frustrate non-gamers and gamers alike. It is just too easy to move the iPhone slightly in the wrong direction and propel your guy off into the abyss. I’ll stick with it and complete the game, but I’m not sure how much “fun” I’m having.

Long Lines

Friday, July 11th, 2008

So, I went to try to get a new iPhone today. At 7 a.m., the line was already 100+. This was in a mall, where they didn’t even open the doors until 5 a.m. I hung out for a while, but after the store had been open an hour, I could see that it was going to be a very slow line. I came back at 1 a.m., still long. Then at 7:30 p.m., still long. I guess I’ll try again tomorrow.

With the App Store coming, there’s going to be plenty to write about. Thinking about blogging more. Who’s waiting in line on July 11 for the 3G?
