Earthcomber
This iPhone version of Earthcomber is pretty neat. It gives you lists of things geographically close to you, like ATMs, shops, movie theaters, and so on. But what is really interesting is it is using your IP address to determine you location. So far, I haven’t seen too many apps that do anything geographical without first asking you to tell the app where you are at. Even the native Mapping app doesn’t seem to know. So hats off to them for doing this. You can even find nearby free WiFi.

Thank you, thank you, for noticing! It’s subtle but you showed us it makes a big difference for people using it. (BTW, if Earthcomber places you somewhere weird in this auto-set method, hit [change] and you’ll have 5 or 6 ways to set it manually)
We’ve been constantly developing this thing to really get to the best experience, even around network restrictions and tech issues.
Now, want to try something really cool? Log in to the jumbo site - http://www.earthcomber.com - and you can doctor all your starter lists so the pre-sets look for all the things what you want. You can even make your own “themes” and put 40 or 400 things under them. That way, when you want to see what’s around, one touch and boom! it’s looking for everything. Beats search box, non?
Just dip into our database for keywords under “Favorites”. It’s non-commercial as much as commercial interests, with many sources contributing our location info. Including small businesses around the country that put themselves on. Check out their listings - that’s what keeps Earthcomber free.
Thanks guys - spread the word. And stay tuned for a really nice upgrade in the next couple of weeks.
