Obsessively Tracking Gas Mileage

When I learned to drive, I was also taught by my dad to keep a little logbook every time I bought gas. I’d record the date, amount of gas, and the number of miles on the odometer. Then I’d calculate the mileage based on that. He said that if my gas mileage suddenly dropped, it was an indication that something was wrong with the car. He was certainly right, but after 10 years and a few cars, I never used the info for anything.
But it appears that my dad is not alone. Others must do this because someone created an iPhone app to keep track. Maybe I should start again.
